In 1977, french army adopted the FAMAS (Fusil d’Assaut de la Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne) replacing the various weapons in dotation (MAS 49/56, MAT 49 SMG and MAC 24/29 LMG).
An efficient tactical weapon, easy to use and allowing the use of rifle grenades with bullet trap, the FAMAS is known for its ambidextrous architecture and its high fire rate of 1,100 bullets per minute.
The FAMAS quickly became THE french weapon, produced in France, by a french manufacturer, for the french army. It has an iconic status all around the globe.
